Sim help
How to get your character into the sim, and how to read the result.
What the sim does
It runs one basic sim of your character in your browser: your talents and your gear, with the engine's preset rotation, buffs and consumables for your spec. Fixed settings: one target, a level-63 boss for 2 minutes, the engine's preset rotation, buffs and consumables, 100 iterations.
It shows your DPS with its spread, the damage by ability, how your number sits against our newest stored run for your spec on the same engine, and your talents next to our build.
The sim engine has no healing spells, so there's no sim for Holy Paladin, Discipline Priest, Holy Priest, Restoration Shaman or Restoration Druid. Healers still get their character read back and their talents against our build. The sim doesn't save characters or compare items.
Install the addon
Install Forever Sim Exporter by DistillNote, our free addon, from its CurseForge page with the CurseForge app. Or download the zip there and unpack it into your game client's AddOns folder.
The same zip is on this site: DistillNoteSimExporter-1.0.2.zip, SHA-256 65c72bddfb043494d1e1fc40698a07762f1d999971fa3efbd87c1e21305d6e7e.
Export your character
In the game, type /dnsim, or pick the addon in the addon menu under the minimap. A window opens with your export, already selected. Press Ctrl+C to copy it. /dnsim again closes the window.
Paste it on the sim page
On the sim page, paste the whole text into the box under Paste your export. It's read as soon as you paste; if not, press Read my character. You see your class, race, level, talents and gear read back. Check them, then press Run sim.
No addon?
Paste a link from our talent calculator: open your class's calculator, pick your talents and copy the link. The sim then runs your talents with the engine's preset gear for your spec, so the number is the preset's, not yours.
An export from the MythicSim exporter addon works too.
Change your gear
Every slot in the gear table has a Change button. Find an item by name in the engine's item list and pick an enchant the engine allows for it, or make a custom item by typing the stats from its tooltip. Custom items have no equip or use effects. The result says how many slots you entered by hand, and the comparison with our run then includes your gear.
No export? Build a character
Under the paste box, pick a class, spec and race, then our level-60 build or a link from our talent calculator. The gear starts as the engine's preset set for the spec, and you can change any slot. It's simmed as a level-60 character.
What the result means
DPS and its spread. The first card shows your DPS. The ± figure under it, across 100 iterations, is the engine's standard deviation: how much single fights vary around that number. A change smaller than the spread may be chance.
Against our run on this engine. The second card puts your number next to our newest stored run for your spec on the engine this page uses: a reference character with its own build and fixed gear, so from an export the difference includes your gear. A calculator link sims the engine's launch gear, not yours, so the card shows both numbers without a difference.
Damage by ability. The five abilities that did the most of your damage, each with its share.
Beta engine: a direction, not a verdict. Rotations, buffs and item stats are the engine's preset for your spec, not yours. Forever's item stats are hidden until items drop in the live game, so the engine's gear data is incomplete until then. Sim engine Items the engine doesn't know yet are simmed as empty slots, and the result says how many.
Characters under level 60: simmed as level 60. The sim engine has no lower level, so it runs your gear and talents as a level-60 character. The first card is then headed DPS as a level-60 character. Use the number to compare gear and talent changes. It isn't your DPS at your level, and there's no stored run to compare it with: our stored runs are level 60.
Healers. The sim engine has no healing spells, so a healer gets the read-back and the talent comparison, without a DPS result.
What we store
Nothing. Your export is read in your browser and never sent to us, and the sim runs on your device. Nothing is kept on your device either: a reload forgets it.
Forever Sim Exporter by DistillNote never writes your character's name or realm. An export can hold your character's name and realm; we drop them as soon as it's read, and never show, store or send them.
If something goes wrong
The game lists the addon as out of date. After a game update, the client marks addons as out of date until they're updated. Update the addon, or allow out-of-date addons in the game's AddOns list.
Your talents couldn't be read. Type /dnsim again in a moment and paste the new export. If it keeps happening, /dnsim debug shows what the addon can read in your game client.
Items the engine doesn't know. The engine's item list doesn't have every Forever item yet. Those slots are simmed as empty, and the result says how many.
This isn't an export we can read. Paste the whole text from the addon, starting with {.
